New In the Music Section: Heavy Metal and Guitar Gods on CD

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Just in at The Rabbit Hole, a slew of heavy CDs from top metal bands and guitar gods of the last 25 years. Check out our tower of a CD display featuring loads of Metallica, Megadeth, Lynch Mob, King’s X, Queensryche, Ozzy Osbourne and many others. In the same stack, find the majority of the Joe Satriani and Steve Vai catalogs, plus G3, Yngwie Malmsteen, and more. These are in outstanding condition and priced in the $5 range!

We’ve also doubled the cassette inventory and re-arranged our upstairs space for easier record shopping and better viewing of our many events (see our Events page).

We had to do a little rearranging this weekend. We are expanding our music section, so it had to move. History will have its own reading room area now, in the area where our vinyl and cd selection was.

Laser Beams and Bicycling

Friday, January 16th, 2009

I usually don’t post something that has already appeared on boingboing.net, but this product is so very cool: LightLane, which is a concept gadget that paints a bike lane around your bicycle with laser-light as you pedal through the night.

CPSIA H.R. 4040 and Children’s Books at The Rabbit Hole

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

Women and girls reading near swingset where younger children...

For the time being we can no longer accept children’s books for store credit due to The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA H.R. 4040), or at least until we figure out if the law is retroactive or not and will apply to children’s books. The law is intended to protect kids from lead. Who can argue about such a lofty goal? Well, the way the law is worded it appears that it may very well drive up costs for manufacturers, put some retailers out of business and other strange consequences.

Right now there seems to be some confusion, and we are having some difficulty in sorting it all out. We will keep researching to see how this will apply to us – if it does.

Brew Years Eve

Drinking to the New Year, N.Y. (LOC)

Drinking to the New Year, N.Y. - between 1910 and 1915

I just talked with Liz Murphy from the Fitchburg Community Development Office about Brew Years Eve. The party is still on, even though the armory has been used for a shelter since electricity has been down for so long, for so many. The armory is in the process of being professionally cleaned and party preparations will be underway soon.

They have decided to turn this party into a celebration that we have electricity. To commemorate this event they have reduced ticket prices to only $5! So, come on out and celebrate with your neighbors, with proceeds going to a good cause – The Fitchburg Public Library.

If you have already purchased your tickets from us, we can reimburse the difference to you right here at The Rabbit Hole.

Jeff Koons, Rabbit (1986), Château de Versailles, Paris

Frieze Magazine asked 18 critics and curators from around the world to choose what they felt to be the most significant solo shows of 2008. The Jeff Koons Rabbit stood out for obvious reasons here.  Click the bunny for the entire article.

We do have plans for another art exhibit in the new year, and I have already seen several very impressive portfolios. Our last exhibit has mostly come down, for a new eclectic selection of posters. If you are an artist, and want to exhibit here at The Rabbit Hole early Spring, call or email for an appointment for a quick portfolio review.

If that is not enough rabbits in the art world for you, check out Colletto Fava: a hill in the northern Piedmont of Italy. In 2005, Viennese art group Gelitin created a massive pink stuffed bunny on the side of the hill. Why? I’m not sure if you are supposed to ask why, or maybe that is the point. Click the giant rabbit photo for more pics.

Parking

Two Against the North

Two Against the North

We wanted to let you know that we do have parking spaces in the back of the building. The lot can be used in case street parking is blocked off due to snow this weekend. Usually, there is plenty of parking right in front of our door, but with weather like it is lately we thought we would let you know about alternate spots.

The only issue is that you have to walk around the building to enter. Or, if unable to make such a trek, perhaps due to treacherous conditions, call us from your cell phone. We will then be able to unlock the back door, and let you inside.

To reach the parking lot you should turn down Central Street. Which is the street reached just before you reach The Rabbit Hole: View Larger Map
