Folk Music at The Rabbit Hole

Monday, December 29th, 2008

This Saturday, January 3rd at 1:00 pm, The Rabbit Hole will be hosting a performance and cd signing for Ernest Spencer.

Metronome Magazine writes:

Singer-Songwriter-guitarist Ernest Spencer is a seasoned journeyman who performed regularly in coffeehouses throughout New England during the 1960′s. He was cited by a prominent Cape Cod newspaper in early 1970 as ‘one of the most relevant folk poets from the Massachussetts area.’ [...]

[...] Spencer returned to his first love of writing music and performing. On his new album A Kinder Gentler Time, Spencer reflects those wonderful sixties with superb acoustic guitar playing and beautiful lyrics that tug at the heart strings.

We would love to have you come on out,  lounge around on our sofas while listening to great folk music and drinking free coffee.

Next order of business: Music videos for your viewing/listening pleasure:

This one made me want to laugh, cry, smile all at the same time.

Wow. Remember when stuff had such an impact on you as a kid? Or, were you always a world, weary cynic?

Drinking to the New Year, N.Y. (LOC)

Drinking to the New Year, N.Y. - between 1910 and 1915

I just talked with Liz Murphy from the Fitchburg Community Development Office about Brew Years Eve. The party is still on, even though the armory has been used for a shelter since electricity has been down for so long, for so many. The armory is in the process of being professionally cleaned and party preparations will be underway soon.

They have decided to turn this party into a celebration that we have electricity. To commemorate this event they have reduced ticket prices to only $5! So, come on out and celebrate with your neighbors, with proceeds going to a good cause – The Fitchburg Public Library.

If you have already purchased your tickets from us, we can reimburse the difference to you right here at The Rabbit Hole.

Frieze Magazine asked 18 critics and curators from around the world to choose what they felt to be the most significant solo shows of 2008. The Jeff Koons Rabbit stood out for obvious reasons here.  Click the bunny for the entire article.

We do have plans for another art exhibit in the new year, and I have already seen several very impressive portfolios. Our last exhibit has mostly come down, for a new eclectic selection of posters. If you are an artist, and want to exhibit here at The Rabbit Hole early Spring, call or email for an appointment for a quick portfolio review.

If that is not enough rabbits in the art world for you, check out Colletto Fava: a hill in the northern Piedmont of Italy. In 2005, Viennese art group Gelitin created a massive pink stuffed bunny on the side of the hill. Why? I’m not sure if you are supposed to ask why, or maybe that is the point. Click the giant rabbit photo for more pics.

Parking

Two Against the North

Two Against the North

We wanted to let you know that we do have parking spaces in the back of the building. The lot can be used in case street parking is blocked off due to snow this weekend. Usually, there is plenty of parking right in front of our door, but with weather like it is lately we thought we would let you know about alternate spots.

The only issue is that you have to walk around the building to enter. Or, if unable to make such a trek, perhaps due to treacherous conditions, call us from your cell phone. We will then be able to unlock the back door, and let you inside.

To reach the parking lot you should turn down Central Street. Which is the street reached just before you reach The Rabbit Hole: View Larger Map
